Vicks Plant (Plectranthus tomentosa)
The "Vicks Plant" is also known as the "Vicks VapoRub" plant due to the menthol-like fragrance of its leaves when bruised. The Vicks Plant can be grown indoors as a houseplant or as a potted outdoor plant.
Foliage:
Oval-shaped, fuzzy, green leaves with a distinct menthol scent when crushed.
Height:
Usually grows as a small, bushy plant, reaching around 12 to 18 inches in height.
Flowers:
Spikes of small, lavender to white flowers may appear in late summer or fall.
Sunlight:
Prefers bright, indirect light. It likes some morning sun but should be protected from harsh afternoon sunlight.
Soil:
Well-draining soilis preferred. Ensure good aeration to prevent root rot.
Watering:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels slightly dry.
Temperature:
Thrives warm weather. Protect from frost. Appreciates higher humidity levels.
Fertilization:
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every month during the growing season (spring and summer).
Pruning:
Pinch back regularly to encourage bushiness and to control its size.
