Lemon Thyme (thymus citriodorus)
A hardy perennial herb with same growing habit as common Thyme, only with a lemon taste. A very aromatic herb that does well in containers. A very easy herb to grow, even in containers.
Sunlight:
Thyme prefers full sunlight. Ensure it gets at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Soil:
Plant thyme in well-draining soil with a slightly alkaline to neutral pH. Good drainage is crucial to prevent root rot.
Watering:
Thyme is drought-tolerant and prefers slightly dry conditions. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
Fertilization:
Thyme doesn't require heavy feeding. A light application of a balanced fertilizer in spring is usually sufficient.
Pruning:
Regular pruning helps maintain a compact, bushy shape and encourages fresh growth. Trim the tips of the stems and remove any dead or woody growth.
Spacing:
Plant thyme with adequate spacing to promote air circulation. This helps prevent fungal diseases.
Pests:
Thyme is relatively resistant to pests, but keep an eye out for issues like spider mites or aphids. Insecticidal soap or neem oil can be used if necessary.
Harvesting:
Harvest thyme leaves as needed once the plant is established. Avoid harvesting more than one-third of the plant at a time. The flavor is often best just before the plant blooms.
Container Growing:
Thyme can thrive in containers. Ensure the pot has drainage holes, use well-draining soil, and place it in a sunny location.
